Meet the Designer

Alexander MacKenzie (He/They)

Alexander MacKenzie (He/They) is a scenic designer from South Seattle. Currently in their last year of undergrad at Pacific Lutheran University, he is getting his B.A. in both Chinese Studies and Applied Artistic Design. Alex grew up around theatre, with their father being a technical director at Cornish College and doing ballet throughout their childhood. He has always been fascinated by how spaces can also be art, having a fascination with architecture from a young age. Originally just a Chinese major, he got into theatre through working in the scene shop and quickly became interested in the design process between the sets they were helping build.

Heavily inspired by his work in printmaking and scenic carpentry, they take heavy inspiration from how materials can be molded to create art. His latest credits include Assistant Scenic Designer for 33 Variations and Scenic Designer for Frankenstein (PLU). They also have many upcoming projects coming later in the school's calendar.

In the next few years he hopes to go to graduate school for design. Hoping to build up his technical skills before diving into the professional world. He wants to bring his art to people wherever he can reach them, helping tell stories through the spaces he is able to create. He hopes to keep theatre as part of his creative outlet, even if professionally other projects take his time.
